Carter Reum is an innovative entrepreneur with a background in building and marketing consumer products and understanding the use of technology in doing so.

Carter Reum is the co-founder of M13, a brand development and investment company accelerating businesses at the nexus of consumer products, technology, and media. M13 focuses on building emerging entrepreneurial businesses in Los Angeles, leading more than $100 million of investments over the next 5 years.

Carter’s taste for entrepreneurship started early, when he worked for Champ Ventures in Sydney scouting and helping incubate young start-up companies. He later joined Goldman Sachs in New York as an investment banker, where he worked with clients including Honeywell, Lockheed Martin and completed the historic IPO for KKR.

Leaving investment banking with an idea to create “a better way to drink,” Carter and his brother Courtney Reum built VEEV Spirits, a 70 proof vodka alternative that became a pioneering artisanal alcohol brand in the spirits industry, helping to popularize the acai berry in the United States into one of the fastest growing independent spirit brands in the country. VEEV Spirits has won a range of awards such as Technomic Fast 50, INC 500 Fast Growth and Beverage Industry Growth Brand award.

While growing VEEV Spirits, Carter and his brother began investing in other companies providing first hand experiences, guidance and capitalization to many emerging businesses. In April 2016, Carter and Courtney sold a majority stake of VEEV Spirits to a larger company allowing them to start M13 and focus on their entrepreneurial stewardship of consumer brands, media and technology. Carter has also become an active angel investor investing in brands that include Pinterest, Lyft, Munchery, Birchbox, Bonobos, Surf Air, Matterport, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Suja.

Carter has been honored by several entrepreneurial groups such as the “30 Under 30” list, the INC “500 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America,” Richard Branson’s best-selling book “Screw Business as Usual” and most recently the Goldman Sachs Builders + Innovators 100 “Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs” in the country.

Carter grew up in Chicago and holds a B.A. with distinction from Columbia University in New York, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA (#2 in his class). Carter is currently a contributing writer for INC Magazine.

In June 2017, Carter was appointed to the LACMA Board of Trustees as he has vested interest in shaping the cultural landscape of Los Angeles.
